PM Kisan Samman Nidhi yojana (PM-KISAN) is a central sector scheme of the Government of India that provides income support to small and marginal farmers. Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive a direct cash transfer of INR 6000 (about 82 US dollars) per year, paid in three equal installments, directly into their bank accounts. The payments are made through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, which ensures that the money goes directly to the intended beneficiaries. The program debuted in December 2018.
The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana application process
- Check if you are eligible: To be eligible for the PM-KISAN scheme, you must be a small or marginal farmer with less than 2 hectares (5 acres) of landholding.
- Collect documents: You will need to provide certain documents to apply for the scheme. These may include your bank account details, proof of identity (such as a voter ID card or PAN card), and proof of land ownership (such as a land ownership certificate or land tax receipt).
- Apply online: You can apply for the PM-KISAN scheme online through the official PM-KISAN portal (https://pmkisan.gov.in/). Click on the “Beneficiary Application” tab and follow the instructions to fill out the application form.
- Apply: After you have filled out the application form, you will need to submit it along with the required documents. You can submit the application and documents either online or in person at a Common Service Center (CSC) or a designated government office.
- Wait for the verification process: Your application will be verified by the concerned authorities, and if you are found to be eligible, you will be enrolled in the PM-KISAN scheme.
- Receive payments: Once you are enrolled in the scheme, you will receive the cash transfer payments directly into your bank account. The payments are made in three equal installments, usually around December, April, and July.
- Go to the PM-KISAN portal: Visit the official PM-KISAN portal (https://pmkisan.gov.in/) and click on the “Beneficiary Status” tab.
- Enter your details: You will need to enter your PM-KISAN ID or your bank account details to check the status of your application.
- View the status: Once you have entered your details, you will be able to view the status of your application. If your application has been approved, you will see a message indicating that you are enrolled in the PM-KISAN scheme.

It is recommended to wait for at least 10-15 days after submitting your application before checking the status, as the verification process can take some time.
